Just days after his latest movie premiere, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin star Nicolas Cage has cemented his movie star status - literally. The actor left his mark in the wet pavement at the entrance of Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, the prints of his hands and feet permanently joining those of film legends Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, among others.
“I used to come here when I was a kid,” said Nicolas, who was accompanied by girlfriend Lisa Marie Presley. “I’d look at all my heroes, like Humphrey Bogart, and their hands and feet and thought about, ‘Well, God, wouldn’t that be great if one day that could happen?’ And you’ve all made it happen.”
In addition to the crowds of fans and paparazzi gathered at the historic site for the event, actor Jim Carrey and US chat show host Jay Leno were also on hand to celebrate.
"I feel exhilarated. With my name in cement, I feel actualised. I am very much a part of Hollywood now," says Nicolas.
Nearly 200 film icons have left their prints in the famous forecourt of the nearly 75-year-old theatre, including Oscar winners Elizabeth Taylor, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jack Nicholson. Now a Hollywood tradition, the first ceremony honoured Douglas Fairbanks and actress Mary Pickford in 1927.
