Oscar-winning Bond babe Halle Berry and sultry Spanish star Penelope Cruz are set to leave glamour behind to take on their new roles as mental patients in an upcoming thriller.

In the horror film Gothika, Halle steps into the shoes of a criminal psychologist who suddenly wakes up under a doctor's care in the asylum where she works, charged with murder. The plot thickens when Halle's character, who suffers from amnesia, realises that the evil doings involve a vengeful spirit.Penelope is set to co-star as a deranged patient in the film, which is produced by Dark Castle, the company behind Ghost Ship and House On Haunted Hill.

While fans of Penelope wait for the autumn release of the film, they can catch her in another unique role on TV. In an upcoming series of Coca-Cola adverts, the dainty Vanilla Sky star gets in touch with her inner lad, letting out a belch while drinking the fizzy beverage.

The new campaign, which also features commercials starring Friends' Courteney Cox and boxing legend Muhammad Ali, will debut in the US next week and will be screened in Britain in 2004.
