JUDE LAW APPEALS TO PRESS FOR PRIVACY

Actor Jude Law was conspicuous by his absence at Monday's British premiere of The Hours in Leicester Square. Despite having spent the past few months working with the film's star Nicole Kidman, the London-based star opted to steer clear of the event in the West End. He did release a statement, however, calling on the press to give himself and wife Sadie Frost some space.

"As you may know, my family has gone through a difficult time over the past few weeks. While we truly appreciate the concern the media has shown towards us, we ask that you now please give us the privacy we eagerly need so that we can put our lives in order.

"There is absolutely no third party involved in our marriage. To suggest otherwise is malicious, hurtful and libellous."

The statement is in marked contrast to Sadie's earlier assertions that there were no problems in the marriage. "I'm feeling fantastic at the moment," she said. "It was just post-natal depression. There are no marriage problems."

The pair have been living apart of late and their plans to produce a film together have been put on hold. It has also been reported that divorce lawyers have been called in as the couple try to hammer out an agreement over custody of their three children.
