Love-lorn singleton Bridget Jones is finding that romantic success can present problems of its own. Because in the new movie Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, our romantically challenged heroine gets to meet her favourite star, Colin Firth.

Unfortunately the actor is already appearing in the flick as her squeeze Darcy, so casting directors have been left with a problem on their hands. A new hunk will have to be drafted in to play Firth in the sequel.

No doubt the dapper Englishman will be disappointed to hear that George Clooney has turned down the role. But insiders at the production say John Travolta is set to step into the breach.

Colin, meanwhile, seems unfazed by the blurring of fiction and reality in his professional life. In the original Bridget Jones book, the plump 30-something lusts after the dashing actor after seeing his turn as Mr Darcy in Pride And Prejudice.

Asked about the continuing success of both his Darcy roles, Colin says he's loving it. "I was delighted to become a popular-culture reference point," he declared. "I'm still delighted about it actually, though I still find it to be weird."
