Scottish actor Ewan McGregor stepped out for the London premiere of his latest film, Young Adam, on Tuesday, joined by his co-stars Tilda Swinton and Emily Mortimer, as well as wife Eve.
Though the sexually-charged drama became famous for some of its raunchy scenes months before its release, Ewan says American audiences might not get to see his full frontal thanks to US censors. "I believe they're cutting the scene out," said the actor, who is known for baring all in films including The Pillow Book and Velvet Goldmine. "They're a bit worried about seeing my 'old chap'."
The outspoken 32-year-old star seems baffled by the American system of film ratings, remarking that the powers-that-be are often more tolerant of violence than sex. "You can blow thousands of people's heads off with a semi-automatic machine gun," he said, "but you can't show a picture of my willy."
US censors will have plenty to work with, as the flick includes the now-infamous "custard" scene – in which Ewan's character erotically smears one of his co-stars with food – and also shows him sleeping with four different women. "That's a lot in one movie," quips the actor, "even for me."
