Old-fashioned romance – both onscreen and off – took centre stage at the Venice Film Festival on Monday. Gritty dramas and dark thrillers dominated the opening days of this year's event, but all that changed when British favourite Rachel Weisz arrived into town with her director fiancé Darren Aronofsky.
The loved-up pair, who welcomed their first child together four months ago, were inseparable on the red carpet as they presented their new film The Fountain. And the flick, which tells three parallel stories spanning over 1,000 years, is definitely one for the die-hard romantics.
In the movie Aussie hunk Hugh Jackman plays a Spanish explorer, a 21st-century scientist and a 26th century astronaut who are all in search of the fountain of youth in order to save the lives of the women they love. "I think it's wonderful that this film is so different," said the film's Oscar-winning leading lady. "I would love to work with Darren again."
Rachel wasn't the only silver screen siren adding a romantic element to the proceedings, though, as Tinseltown starlet Lindsay Lohan was also enjoying the sights and sounds of Venice with her leading man Harry Morton. The smitten couple were photographed embracing and laughing together as they floated through the picturesque city in a gondola.
