Stars jet into Toronto as film festival kicks off

Red carpets were rolled out around town in Toronto on Thursday as the city's international film festival got underway. From Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss to The Wedding Crashers' Isla Fisher, the stars had turned out in force for the festival's first screenings.

Brunette beauty Carrie-Anne was looking gorgeous in an elegant black dress accessorised with the season's hottest shoe trend, animal print heels, as she stepped out to watch Fido, a quirky tale about domesticated zombies. The Vancouver-born actress was joined on the red carpet by her dapper co-stars Spider-Man villain Dylan Baker and British actor Billy Connolly.

Flame-haired Isla, who grew up in Australia, was snapped at the Ryerson Theatre screening of the quirkily titled Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan. The satirical film features her fiancé Sacha Baron-Cohen as a Kazakhstani TV personality on assignment in the US.

In the flick, which is released in North American cinemas in November, Sacha's character opts to track Pamela Anderson - who also appears in the film - rather than any perhaps more obvious Western target.

Other big-name guests due to show their faces at the festival before the weekend include Penelope Cruz – whose film Volver wowed audiences at Cannes – and Reese Witherspoon. Also expected to be on hand are James McAvoy and Catherine O'Hara, in town for the premiere of their comedy Penelope.
