Beyonce and husband Jay-Z were among hip-hop stars gathered by music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs to pay tribute to his late protege Christopher 'Biggie Smalls' Wallace at a recent premiere.

The film being shown, Notorious, charts the life of the rapper from his beginnings on the New York street music scene to his death in 1997.

Attending the screening with Biggie's mother Voletta on him arm, Diddy, who executive produced the flick, expressed his satisfaction at the way in which the film remembered his friend. "It's a great day for my man Biggie," said the empresario.

He added: "People finally get to meet Christopher Wallace when they see the movie. This movie makes you dance, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry and it makes you respect life and appreciate what you have in front of you."
