Liam Neeson's actress wife Natasha Richardson is in a critical condition after a skiing accident in Canada, according to reports in the US and Irish press.

American publication People confirmed the 45-year-old British actress had been admitted to a Montreal hospital on Monday with serious head injuries. Meanwhile a representative for the film Chloe - which Liam has been lensing in Toronto - told Canadian TV that the Northern Irish actor has travelled to Montreal to be at Natasha's side.

"Liam Neeson left the Toronto set immediately to fly to Montreal upon news of his wife's accident," said the spokesperson. "We do not have any details at this time but we hope for the best and our thoughts and prayers are with Natasha and Liam and their family."

Natasha - daughter of Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave - has been married to 56-year-old Liam since 1984. The couple have two sons - Micheal, 13, and 12-year-old Daniel.
