Brad and Angelina affectionate at war flick screening in Cannes

It was the moment Cannes film fans had been waiting for – Hollywood super couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie back on the red carpet. The parents-of-six were at the festival premiere of Brad's new Tarantino movie.

With the US media dedicating reams of column inches to the state of the couple's relationship of late, coupled with the fact they haven't been snapped together for months, interest in their interaction and body language was high.

Their appearance was clearly aimed at putting paid to any claims of trouble in their romance. Brad was super-attentive to his partner, who was looking stunning in floor-length chiffon Versace, split at the thigh to reveal toned bare legs and peep-toe Louboutins.

Angelina wasn't the only actress showing off her enviable legs at the unveiling of war epic Inglourious Basterds. Sharon Stone, 51, was on knockout form at the screening in a black Balmain minidress with dramatic train.

Other guests included burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese and Adrien Brody's ex Elsa Pataky, who made quite an entrance in a strapless gown from Elie Saab's spring 2009 couture range.

Joining them was the movie's director Quentin Tarantino, who at one point led the cast, including Canadian funnyman Mike Myers and Diane Kruger - elegant in ivory silk chiffon Marchesa - in an impromptu cancan.

Brad earlier revealed he'd signed up for the film after a crazy night in with the US filmmaker. "I get up the next morning and see five empty bottles of wine on the floor. Five! And apparently I had agreed to do this film."

The director admitted he was about to abandon the film altogether when he cast Brad just six weeks before filming started.
