His model sweetheart Miranda Kerr is Australian and seven years ago he filmed Ned Kelly Down Under; a combination of which seems to have prompted big-hearted Orlando Bloom to do his bit in response to the bush fires which have ravaged the southeastern state of Victoria.

"I came here to see my girlfriend and we flew in to this horrific news," said the Pirates Of The Caribbean star as he joined local celebrities in a four-and-a-half-hour televised appeal for donations.

"It's amazing to see this sort of courage and spirit. It is inspiring to see the people of Australia pull together," he added.

The British actor said the community unity reminded him of the way New Yorkers rallied after the September 11 disaster.
