Loved ones of Natasha Richardson - including her actress mother Vanessa Richardson and sister Joely Richardon - have rushed to the actress' bedside in New York after she was seriously hurt in a skiing accident in Canada.

While there's been no confirmation on the exact nature of her condition, there have been reports she may have suffered a blood clot to the brain and has been left fighting for her life after what first appeared to be an apparently minor tumble.

The 45-year-old was flown by private jet from intensive care in Montreal to New York after suffering a head injury during a ski lesson on the nursery slopes at the upmarket Mount Tremblant resort on Monday. Natasha - who wasn't wearing a helmet - initially laughed off the accident and declined to see a doctor, even signing a form to refuse medical treatment.

"She was laughing and joking and she walked to her room on her own," said the resort's spokesperson. "She wasn't confused. She knew where she was, and was in full control. There was no visible injury, no sign of impact."

An hour after returning to her hotel room, the British actress began to experience severe headaches and was taken to hospital, where doctors gave her a CT scan and discovered the full extent of her head injuries. She was then taken to a better equipped hospital in Montreal as husband Liam Neeson left his latest film project in Toronto to be by her side.
