Although the details of his next Pirates adventure are still under wraps, Johnny Depp was getting reacquainted with his cheeky character in London this week as he delighted young hospital patients on a surprise visit, dressed as Captain Jack.

In town promoting his latest flick Public Enemies - in which he stars opposite fellow Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard - the Hollywood heart-throb took time out of his busy schedule to pay a visit to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital.

"Johnny was so friendly with all the children… they absolutely loved his pirate outfit,” said a source at the hospital. "He spoke to lots of the youngsters and staff – and made their day by posing for pictures with them all."

And this isn't the first time the hunky father-of-two has shown his gratitude to the hospital. This January, he donated £1 million to thank them for looking after his 10-year-old daughter during her health scare.

Lily-Rose, Johnny's daughter by long-term French partner Vanessa Paradis, spent nine days at the hospital last March after she contracted E.coli poisoning which led to kidney failure.

"It was the most frightening thing we've ever been through," revealed Johnny. "But the magic is that she pulled through beautifully. Great Ormond Street was terrific. A great hospital."
