Radiant Angelina Jolie gives G8 summit speech

Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie cut a conservative figure when she gave a speech at a meeting of the G8 foreign ministers in London on Thursday. The Lara Croft actress, who is a Special Envoy for the UN Human Rights Council, delivered her short, poignant speech in which she spoke out about sexual violence against women and children.

"This violence can be prevented, and it must be confronted," she said. "I have heard survivors of rape from Bosnia to the Democratic Republic of Congo say that the world simply does not care about them. "But today I believe that their voices have been heard, and that we finally have some hope to offer them." The 37-year-old was elegant in a simple black dress, wool coat and patent nude heels. Her brunette locks were styled in a demure bun and she wore a string of pearls around her neck and matching earrings. It was a successful day for the actress and her colleague William Hague as he made a historic announcement at Lancaster House confirming a pledge to end sexual violence and rape in conflict zones.

The agreement will result in money dedicated to fight the crimes. Angelina's presence shines spotlight on the cause which has seen her working alongside the British Foreign Secretary for the past year. In March, William and Angelina made a trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda together. Angelina, who is expected to marry her Mr and Mrs Smith co-star Brad Pitt soon, met survivors of rape and sexual violence during a visit to Nzolo refugee camp. Thursday's meeting forms part of a two-day summit with members of leading countries including Britain, the US, Russia, Japan and Germany in which they are expected to discuss the situation in North Korea and the civil war in Syria.
