Reese Witherspoon's fans were shocked when she and her talent agent husband Jim Toth were recently arrested, Jim for driving under the influence and Reese for disorderly conduct.
Now, the Hollywood actress has spoken about the incident during a chat with Good Morning America, calling it "one of those nights".
"We went out to a restaurant in Atlanta, and we had one too many glasses of wine," the mum-of-three explained. "We thought we were fine to drive, and we were absolutely not, and we are so sorry and just so embarrassed."
Reese added, "We made a mistake, and it was something that will absolutely never happen again."
Police reports of the arrest said the Walk The Line actress was involved in a confrontation with officers as they conducted sobriety tests.
According to the document, the Oscar-winning actress asked the officer if he knew who she was and is also quoted as saying, "you're about to find out who I am" and "you're about to be on national news".
Explaining her behaviour Reese said, "I have no idea what I was saying. That night I saw him arresting my husband, and I panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things. I said I was pregnant.
"I'm not pregnant. I said crazy things. I had no idea what I was talking about."
Reese is mum to Ava 13, and Deacon, eight – her children from her marriage to Ryan Phillippe. She and Jim also recently welcomed a little boy named Tennessee James.
The star said explaining the incident to her children was "the hardest part" of the arrest. "When you make a mistake, you take responsibility, and we are taking responsibility, and we are doing everything within our power to make it right."
