Downton Abbey series four: meet the cast who bring Downton to life

by Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and the cast of Downton Abbey are finally back on our screens and life in the Crawley household is already getting off to an exciting start.

As series four is set in 1922 – with World War I over and the roaring Twenties just beginning – the hemlines are shorter, the romance is riskier and there are a whole host of new cast members that promise to shake things up in the manor.

Following last season's tragic climax which saw Matthew, husband to Lady Mary, father to baby George and heir to the Downton estate, die in a car crash, writer Julian Fellowes has promised that this series will be a lot lighter in tone.

There are new suitors for Mary and Lady Edith, who is pursuing an unconventional profession and a daring love affair, while the return of ladies' maid Edna is already stirring up trouble below stairs.
