Gillian Flynn's 2012 novel topped the New York Times bestseller list for eight weeks and sold more than two million copies in its first year of publication — and now fans have the chance to see Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in action in the silver screen adaptation.
Husband Nick Dunne, played by Ben Affleck, reports his wife missing but quickly becomes the main suspect in the investigation into her disappearance
The minute-long clip sees Ben as Nick Dunne searching for his wife Amy, who mysteriously vanished on their fifth wedding anniversary. He quickly becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance as the authorities and the media begin to question his motives.
The trailer ends with Nick fleeing from news crews into a police car, while proclaiming, "I did not kill my wife. I am not a murderer." It has been set to a haunting version of Charles Aznavour's She, covered by Richard Butler from Psychedelic Furs.
The film also stars Neil Patrick Harris as Amy's ex boyfriend Desi Collings and Tyler Perry as Nick's defense attorney Tanner Bolt.
The couple are seen arguing in the new trailer
Author Gillian, who has written the screenplay for the adaptation, has said that fans of the book are in for a few surprises — and confirmed that the end of the film will differ from her novel.
"Ben was so shocked by it," she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview this year. "He would say, 'This is a while new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch'."
Gone Girl is scheduled for release on October 3, 2014.
