Nicole Kidman is one of Australia's most famous actresses
, with two Academy Awards nominations and one win under her belt, as well as three Golden Globes and one BAFTA
Born in 1967, Nicole took up acting in her teens, and made her breakthrough in the early 1990s, in films such as Days of Thunder
and Batman Forever.
It was in 1995 though, for the film To Die For
, where Nicole became known for being one of the best actresses of her generation, with eight different Best Actress awards for the role, including her first Golden Globe. In 2001 she took her career to the next level with the critically acclaimed box office smash Moulin Rouge
, which garnered the Australian actress her first Academy Award for Best Actress.
She has since gone on to star in films as diverse as Dogville, Cold Mountain, and The Golden Compass,
and received two more Oscar nominations, for her work as Virginia Woolf in The Hours
and a grieving mother in Rabbit Hole.
Nicole married fellow actor Tom Cruise in 1990 after they met on the set of Days of Thunder
, and the pair have two adopted children together. They divorced in 2001 citing irreconcilable difference, but Nicole has said of their time together: "To me, he was just Tom, but to everybody else, he is huge. But he was lovely to me and I loved him. I still love him."
The Australian beauty is now married to country singer Keith Urban
and the couple have two daughters - Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
