Kylie Minogue may don her overalls again for Neighbours anniversary

by Kylie Minogue has reportedly been asked to return to Australian soap Neighbours to take part in their 30th anniversary episode.

The pop star first shot to fame in the 1980s as Charlene Mitchell, a teenage tomboy who trained as a mechanic. Her relationship on screen with Scott Robinson, and off screen with the actor who played Scott, Jason Donovan, made the pair popular with viewers - and their wedding was an instant ratings hit.

The 30th anniversary will air in March 2015, and a Network Ten representative told AAP: "We have an open invitation for Kylie Minogue to return to Neighbours but at this stage the reports are only speculation.

"It goes without saying we would be thrilled for Kylie to reprise her role as Charlene for the 30th anniversary."

Rumours began circulating earlier this month when Anne Charleston, Kylie's co-star who played Madge Bishop told The Mirror: "The Neighbours special 30th anniversary is coming up. I will probably be involved and it will go to air in March. I think Kylie is on board for the special and I imagine everyone will be in on it because it's a big occasion.

"I look on those days with fondness and there is no way in hell I'd walk away from the special because it's a celebration and I think we should all be involved in it."

Kylie has yet to speak about the rumours, but she did send fans a cryptic tweet that read: "So.....I bought overalls today.

Kylie's stint on Neighbours kickstarted her music career, and following her departure in 1987 she released a string of hits albums which included the popular tracks I Should Be So Lucky, Hand on your Heart, and Especially for You, a duet with Jason.

In 2014 she released her twelfth studio album and is about to embark on her 14th tour.
