Stereo Kicks were interrupted mid performance on Saturday night's X Factor by comedian, Lee Nelson, who jumped on stage to sing with the eight-piece boy band. Despite the "imposter" being carried off stage by security, the boy band remained professional and continued to sing.
“Some guy just walked out from the audience,” said Louis Walsh as Mel B laughed at Cheryl thinking it was Mark Owen from Take That.
“This is exactly what I’ve wanted you to bring onto the stage since the beginning,” said Mel B before pointing out that the boys had done well to put up with an “idiot imposter” during their performance of You Are Not Alone.
The show kicked off on Saturday with a Queen vs Michael Jackson themed night. Earlier in the week head judge, Simon Cowell, announced to the contestants that the act leaving the competition this week would not make the live arena tour next year.
Hoping to stay in the competition, Paul Akister was the first act to take to the stage to perform Queen’s iconic hit, Don’t Stop Me Now. “You are an amazing singer,” praised Louis, giving the singer a 10/10 for his performance while Cheryl Fernandez-Versini urged him to “trust Mel’s advice” and be a “real performer”.
Next to sing was Jay James, who had been suffering from losing his voice this week. The ex-Navy officer started with a unique introduction by starting off singing backstage before walking onto the stage, performing Queen’s The Show Must Go On.
“You need this break in your life,” said Simon following mixed reviews from Cheryl and Mel B who commented that his voice wasn’t up to his usual standards.
Lauren Platt then took to the stage, affecting admitting to missing her parents while living in the X Factor house. Her mentor, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, treated the 17-year-old and her family to afternoon tea in London as a surprise, cheering the singer up.
“I thought the last 20 seconds was fantastic,” said Simon after her performance of Michael Jackson's I'll Be There, following Louis suggested that she will make the finals, “without a doubt”.
Mel B also revealed that the singer had been suffering from tonsillitis this week and should be commended for her professionalism.
Following an impressive performance last week on Fright Night, Only The Young stepped out on Saturday to perform Jackson 5’s, Blame It On The Boogie.
“The competition wouldn’t be the same without you,” said Simon Cowell while Cheryl praised them for their “amazing chemistry”.
Ben Haenow, then took on the brave task of singing Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror, in acapella at the beginning of his performance.
“Your best performance was last week,” critiqued Mel B, before saying that his voice wasn’t strong enough for that song. “It takes live guts to sing almost a minute of that song without anything,” replied Simon Cowell, predicting that a “star was being born”.
Stevi Ritchie was next to the stage to sing Bohemian Rhapsody, putting on a Freddie Mercury moustache mid performance.
“You really took the theme and ran with it ,” said Cheryl as Mel B said that watching him perform felt like “an acid trip”.
“You know you’re not the best singer but you’re making the most of it,” said Simon.
Hoping to prove that she could sing as well as dance, Fleur East, took to the mic to perform Michael Jackson’s Will You Be There, standing centre-stage in a floor-length gold halter dress.
“You’ve got that magical thing, star quality,” said Louis while Mel B said that she “owned it and commanded the stage”. Having flown home to Italy this week, Andrea Faustini
was ready to take on another live show, singing Queen’s Somebody To Love.
“The whole of Britain loves you,” said Cheryl before Simon asked for Andrea’s parents to come over to his house to cook him dinner.
