At 16, she attended a college known for its performing arts programme and it was here that Emily found her first agent.
She made her professional debut on the stage, working alongside Dame Judi Dench in The Royal Family, and made her screen debut the following year in 2003, in Boudica, and then won rave reviews for her performance in the two-part drama Henry VIII.
In 2005 she starred in TV drama Gideon's Daughter, for which she won her Golden Globe award, but it was in 2006 that she took on the role many still remember her for - as Emily, Meryl Streep's assistant in the scathing comedy The Devil Wears Prada. Her performance stole the film, and garnered her BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations.
Starring roles in hit films such as The Young Victoria, The Adjustment Bureau, and Looper have followed allowing Emily to prove her acting talents across many genres.
In 2014, she starred in the sci-fi hit Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise, and the musical Into The Woods - reteaming with her Devil Wears Prada co-star, Meryl.
In her personal life, Emily was in a three-year relationship with singer Michael Bublé. The pair split in 2008, and Emily soon met fellow actor John Krasinski. The happy couple married in 2010, and they have one daughter, one-year-old Hazel.
