BAFTA-winning actor Adam Deacon has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, a court has heard. The 32-year-old, who is best known for his roles in Kidulthood and Babylon, had been due to appear at Thames magistrates court in Bow, east London on Friday but the court was told that he was being treated in hospital after being held under section two of the Mental Health Act. Adam's case, in which he face charges of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, had been adjourned from 6 March. Lawyers for the Hackney-born actor asked for another adjournments and the case will now be heard on 30 April.

"On the last occasion the defendant wasn't in court," said the court clerk on 20 March. "And an adjournment period was agreed because the defendant was in hospital for treatment for underlying mental health issues." The charges against Adam relate to an incident which took place on 6 January when police where called to the actor's street in Bethnal Green after they received reports that a man was armed with a knife and acting threateningly. The event took place the day after a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear at Hammersmith magistrate's court after being accused of harassing actor Noel Clarke, who wrote and directed 2006 film Kidulthood and its 2008 sequal Adulthood.

In 2012 Adam beat of competition from Chris Hemsworth, Chris O'Dowd, Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne to win the BAFTA rising star award for directing urban comedy Anuvahood. Having won a scholarship to Anna Scher stage school when he was young, some of Adam's first acting roles were ITV drama London's Burning and Sacha Baron Cohen's film Ali G Indahouse. His other screen credits include: Casualty, Being Human and Dead Set.
