Mary Berry has officially put the days of The Great British Bake Off behind her as she has announced her brand new BBC show – Mary Berry's Secrets from Britain's Great Houses.

The 81-year-old revealed how much she was looking forward to the new project after deciding to remain with the BBC after it was announced that GBBO would be moving to Channel 4.

Mary has a new BBC show

"I am so excited to be doing this new series with the BBC," the food writer said in a statement.

"I have always had an enquiring mind so I know I will be inspired by the great houses we visit."

The BBC director of content Charlotte Moore gave an insight into what viewers can expect, saying: "This series will be a real treat for BBC One viewers to go behind the scenes with Mary Berry and explore Britain's great houses through her love of cooking."

Mary confirmed that she wouldn't be appearing as a judge in the next series of Bake Off in a statement back in September, saying: "It has been a privilege and honour to be part of seven years of magic in a tent… My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.

Mary will also take part in GBBO's Christmas specials

"I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision."

While the show's hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc also decided to remain with the BBC, Paul Hollywood was the only one of the four to be moving with the show to Channel 4.

"It's been a huge part of my life in the past few years and I just couldn't turn my back on all that," he said at the time.

"So I am delighted that I will be continuing as a judge when Bake Off moves to Channel 4. I want to thank the BBC and Mel and Sue for making my time in the tent great fun and really rewarding."
