Jennifer Hudson wows with impromptu performance on The Voice

by Emmy Griffiths

Jennifer Hudson wowed the audience with an impromptu performance of her hit single, Spotlight while filming The Voice. The star gave into the crowd's chants for her to sing, and asked them what they would like to hear, with one particularly keen fan screaming: "Spotlight". The star began a singalong then belted out the song, showcasing her stunning vocals and seriously impressing her fellow judges, will.i.am, Tom Jones and Gavin Rossdale.

The Oscar-winner filmed the audience as she performed, and celebrated when she realised she had managed to hit the right key. "Was that even close to the right key?" she asked the band before shouting: "I was in the right key! Did you see that Tom?!" Jennifer is currently the favourite judge to have the winning contestant on the popular singing competition, with a spokesperson for William Hill saying: "Jennifer is proving to be an excellent judge and could well win at her first attempt. Clearly ITV were keen to get the show off to a flyer, and there remains a theory that Mo is the best of all the contestants." 21-year-old Mo Adeniran chose Jennifer to be his mentor after all four judges turned their chairs during his performance of Iron Sky.

The talented contestant spoke to the Liverpool Echo about choosing her as his mentor. "It was such a relief when so many judges turned around, but before I went I thought to myself that I’d go with Jennifer if I was lucky enough for her to turn around," he admitted. "My plan was that if Jennifer turned around then I'd pick Jennifer as my mentor. She's so talented, her voice is amazing. She's been through a lot and I really respect her. Since the audition Jennifer has been amazing. She understands what I'm working towards. She really is a massive star, but it's nice that she's so humble."
