They are two of the most beloved stars on Strictly Come Dancing, but even Karen and Kevin Clifton don't know whether the BBC will ask them to return to the popular BBC One show later this year. Appearing on Wednesday's Lorraine, the married couple revealed their hopes to be back. Kevin, 34, said: "We don't know. They let us know later on in the year. We sort of hope. We keep that part of the year in our calendar free and go 'please call us back!"
The stars, who married in July 2015 in a wedding exclusively covered by HELLO! magazine, are busy gearing up for their first solo tour, aptly called Kevin & Karen Dance. The tour kicks off in July and tells the story of their romance through a sequence of various routines. During a recent interview with Radio Times, Kevin talked about the concept behind the tour and how he managed to end up with Karen - much to everyone's surprise.
Karen and Kevin Clifton have revealed their hopes for Strictly Come Dancing return
"In the end we decided that we wanted to tell our story," he explained. "It's kind of a weird thing that we're together really. Karen's from Venezuela, I'm from Grimsby and we met in New York. When we got together, I think a lot of people thought that it would probably never work. It is insane because we are so different as people but somehow we compliment each other and we get on really well. It's kind of an odd story that we're together and we're an odd couple but we decided that our own show would be the best way to do it."
Speaking about working together all the time, Karen added: "We're obviously doing something that we love and we enjoy doing together. I think that's one of the best things about us - that we absolutely love working together, especially when it’s something that really means something to us that's very special." Karen and Kevin met during the production of Burn the Floor on Broadway and got engaged in early 2013, they have since become some of the most popular dancing professionals on Strictly.
