The first taste of Great British Bake Off 2013

The show that we've all been waiting for is back. A trailer for the upcoming fourth series of The Great British Bake Off gives the first glimpse of the new round of baker hopefuls who aim to impress the show’s judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

The trailer whets viewers' appetites to the tune of Handel's Hallelujah, showing contestants whisking, adding toppings and making final touches to perfect the offerings they will present for the all-important tasting.

Then the song cuts as the camera pans to baking experts Paul and Mary as they get their tasting forks ready to dig into the masterpiece for the first taste. "This is delicious", says Paul, showing that, for now at least, one contestant has come up trumps. "Cake - it's what makes us great" appears across the screen to end the trailer.

What has become one of the most popular programmes on TV will once again see the nation’s bakers putting their skills to the test on a weekly basis in the hope of being crowned the winner of this year's competition.

With the baking disasters, tears, laughter, and wonderful cakes – including pithiviers, fondant fancies and chiffon cake – decorating the silver screen last series, who knows what the next one holds in store.

Law student John Whaite was the last crowned winner of the hit show after blowing away the judges with his truly remarkable 'heaven and hell' cake.

Now, with the ovens warming and aprons at the ready, we can get ready to do it all over again.

The Great British Bake Off returns to our screens on Tuesday 20 August at 8pm on BBC Two.
