We caught up with New York hairdresser Paul Labrecque to find out who he thought swept the board style-wise at the Oscars and he reckons Penelope Cruz should have won for Best Supporting Hairstyle, too.
"Penelope’s hair had the old Hollywood glamour of Audrey Hepburn," he told us. "The fringe and the twist at the back took Penelope from sex goddess to sophisticated elegance."
Paul said the style is achieved by starting with a volumising mousse before blowdrying for as much body as possible. Mousse is also essential to give hair hold and substance to stop it slipping out of place.
Lightly backcomb all over, again to help keep hair in place, then brush all the way to one side of the neck, folding hair over itself and securing with grips, pushing them right into the hair to make them less visible - and of course choosing a colour that matches your hair.
The fringe is then brushed over to one side and a glossing product added for essential shine - try Paul Labrecque Color Finish Polish & Seal Droplets, £15, from Selfridges and www.beautyexpert.co.uk - sealed with plenty of hairspray for hold, too.
