We began with Jessica Alba, who graced the Golden Globes with a romantic, vintage updo.
FYI, this isn’t the easiest style to recreate at home – think rolling, clipping, combing, clipping, twisting, twirling and then more clipping.
And the prep work actually started the previous day. For this look Richard recommends washing your hair 24 hours earlier so it has a little “city grime”.
Now, as a girl who is rarely on speaking terms with a hairbrush, I was embarrassingly ecstatic with the final result – intricate, feminine and oh-so-groomed.
For all of two minutes. It was now time to tackle Charlize Theron’s French plait. My pretty updo was destroyed as several hundred hairclips were removed and I resisted the urge to cry.

But the statuesque blonde's Swedish milkmaid-style ‘do actually proved far easier and Angelina Jolie’s elegant chignon even more so.
Three and a half hours, three awards-ceremony-worthy looks and three thousand hairclips later, I left the salon with Angelina’s style.
Wholly convinced the bun lent me an air of glamour and sophistication, I swanned around Chelsea feeling red-carpet ready.
All I needed now was a five-figure, custom-made Atelier Versace couture gown.
A girl can dream, right?
