The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, never fails to set fashion and beauty trends, with royal fans around the world constantly coveting her effortlessly elegant looks. The Duchess turned heads with an elegant chignon

Looking demure in an £850 Missoni coat, black dress and a pillbox hat, Kate chose to sweep her glossy brunette hair into an elegant chignon, using a hairnet to keep her locks in place. Eagle-eyed fans quickly took note of the subtle hairpiece which matched her natural hair colour almost to perfection.

The Duchess has no doubt sparked a revival of the trend, with the 'Kate Effect' already taking hold, as fans have quickly begun trying out the look for themselves. It comes as no surprise: the 'Kate Effect' often sees her ensembles and accessories selling out minutes after being identified.

It could be that Prince George and Princess Charlotte's mother was inspired by the autumn/winter 2016 catwalk shows, which saw veils and hairnets making a rare appearance. Models in the Gucci show were spotted with fascinators and headpieces that held their hair together with net detailing, while other designers such as Isabel Marant opted for full on veils.
