Halle Berry debuted a striking new look on the red carpet at the 2017 Academy Awards, wearing her hair in natural, voluminous curls to complement her stunning Versace gown. The Oscar-winning actress embraced her natural texture with the help of hairstylist Castillo Bataille, who revealed he chopped five inches off Halle's hair to create a heart shape style to frame her face.

"Halle definitely wanted something people aren't used to, that wasn't so perfect and a bit dishevelled, but still something that is powerful and beautiful," the stylist told Hollywood Reporter. To achieve her head-turning look Castillo washed Halle's hair with MOP Mixed Greens Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner, and added the brand's Lemongrass Whip to her roots for extra volume.

Before drying her hair, he applied MOP C-Curl Defining Cream throughout, and added dimension by creating curls of different sizes with the T3 Whirl Trio Curling Iron. Halle was thrilled by the finished result, and explained the meaning behind her red carpet look in an interview with Vogue.com.

"I have always marched to the beat to my own drum, and I think this red-carpet look encapsulates that," she said. "The dress is glamorous with a sense of romance that made me feel feminine and fresh. With this look, I celebrate my natural hair by allowing it to be wild and free."

Halle is not the only Hollywood star to embrace her natural textured hair on the red carpet. Fellow actresses Thandie Newton and Lupita Nyong'o have also spoke of their desire to trial a more natural look. "Textured hair is a joyous world of opportunities," Thandie told HELLO! recently. "It starts with confidence and pride because, baby, big hair gets a big reaction. So get ready for centre-stage attention and warm up the high-beam smile to match,"
