He was once famed for his short spikey hair, but Gareth Gates has undergone a dramatic transformation of late. The former Pop Idol star caused a bit of a stir amongst This Morning viewers when he sported a combover style during Wednesday's episode of the show. Gareth, 32, wore his dark hair swept across his head as he sat down to talk to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. And fans were quick to comment on his latest 'do. "Looks like Gareth Gates is loving his hair #combover #ThisMorning," one wrote. Another remarked: "Oh dear. What's happened to Gareth Gates' hair?"

Gareth Gates divided opinions with his hair style on This Morning this week

Gareth appeared on the show alongside fellow guest Jennifer Vaughn to talk about the daily struggles faced by those with a stammer. "You can't be the person you want to be," he said. "I found it really, really hard as a kid. I didn't know anybody else who had a stammer, so it was a very lonely place." Both he and Jennifer credited The McGuire Programme with helping them deal with their speech impediment. The programme was founded in 1994 by severe stammer sufferer Dave McGuire, who developed a new method based on breathing techniques and different psychological approaches.

Gareth added: "It's not until you meet other people you think there's hope out there. If I've learnt a script and I'm in character, it's fine. It's everyday chit chat that I find hard. I've never struggled with performing on stage, it's a different kind of mindset really."
