Beauty guru helps Coronation Street star Sally Whittaker deal with cancer battle

The irony of Sally Whitaker finding out she had breast cancer just as her character in Coronation Street, Sally Webster, did, too, is not lost on the actress. She says she may not have even discovered her lump if not prompted by the scenes she was playing at the time. And as she recovers from the chemo, Sally has discovered how feeling confident about the face she presents to the world – especially when that face is in the limelight – can help lift the spirits.

Six months after being diagnosed, Sally made an appointment to see Karen Betts, an expert in medical tattooing – permanent make-up that can recreate the look of eyebrows, which are often lost as a result of chemotherapy and even the nipple on women who’ve had reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy. She can also add in permanent eyeliner when lashes have been lost, too. Sally’s treatment saw her lose her eyebrows so she saw Karen to have the appearance of brows tattooed on to her forehead. “I was shocked by how much the chemotherapy changed the way that I looked," said the star - who opened up about her cancer battle exclusively to HELLO! magazine.

"It really undermined my self-confidence. So having the eyebrow procedure really made a big difference to how I was feeling – it gave my psychological wellbeing a real boost.”

In fact, Sally now intends to have eyeliner added, too. “I’m addicted now,” she admitted. Anyone affected by cancer can find out how permanent cosmetics may help them come to terms with the affects upon their appearance by calling Karen’s Nouveau Beauty Group on 0845 633 3994.
