Ashley Graham said she is "thrilled" to have been immortalised in plastic with her very own Barbie doll.

The model, who champions body confidence, unveiled the one-of-a-kind doll at the Glamour Women of the Year summit in Los Angeles on Monday.

"We need to work together to redefine the global image of beauty and continue to push for a more inclusive world," Ashley said in a statement. "I'm thrilled Barbie has not only evolved their product, but also has continued to honour women who are pushing boundaries. It's an honour to be immortalised in plastic."

Ashley has worked with the brand to ensure the doll is as realistic as possible, including dressing it in a replica of one of her memorable outfits – an Opening Ceremony bodycon dress with a Sonia Rykiel cropped denim jacket and Pierre Hardy boots.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the process, Ashley explained: "She had to have her thighs touch. No ands, ifs or buts about it. And I asked for cellulite but obviously plastic and cellulite don't go hand in hand.

The model said it was an honour to have a doll made to resemble her

"It was important that the Barbie resembled me as much as possible. The thighs touching was one way to show young girls that it's okay for your thighs to touch, despite society saying that a 'thigh gap' is more beautiful."

Ashley speaks openly about body positivity and previously said she felt it was her purpose in life to empower other women – a role she doesn't take lightly.

Speaking to ELLE Canada recently, Ashley explained: "I believe that we're all here for a purpose and that one of my biggest ones is to help people understand that they're beautiful. I get emails every day from women who say 'I would never have gotten into a bikini without you.'"
