Lily's in the pink with new trend

Recreate the Smile singer's dramatic shocking pink lips

With a beautiful tassled slimline frock that showed off what looked to be a newly slimline figure, Lily Allen stepped out in style with lips that spoke volumes about her attitude. While most other celebs seem to be working either the red or nude lipped trend, Lily paired her very on-trend Gothic eyes with an out-of-nowhere bright shocking pink on the lips.

Make-up artists always recommend choosing one feature to highlight, but as Lily went for both eyes and mouth, she wisely keep her complexion safely pale with hardly any blush – the effect could have otherwise been a little too Aunt Sally. To recreate Lily's smoky eyes, try starting with a soft silver effect, such as Bourjois Shimmering Shine Liquid Eyshadow in silvery Gris Platine, £6.95, smudged over the upper and around the lower eyelid.

On the upper lid, go over the top with a black powder shadow or a pencil eyeliner just around the lashes, winging it out towards the outer edges on the upper lid to widen the eye area. Absolutely essential is running a pencil kohl liner around the inner rim of both lids to create that sexy, sultry look. Finish with as much mascara as your lashes can take before turning spidery, concentrating all but the first layer on the outer third of the upper lashes, again to create that winged-out, wide-eyed effect – we totally love Max Factor's new False Lash Effect Mascara, £10.99, that you can layer upon layer to create showstopping eyes.

The piece de resistance, though, is the lipstick - which Lily has smeared over her lips imprecisely (older lips may need to use a brush with such a bright, defined colour to make sure it doesn't feather outside of the lipline). The fact that the finish is matte stops the lips fighting too much with the glossiness of the silver around the eyes. Max Factor Lipfinity in Euphoric, £9.99, is a good match.
