Luscious, lasting lashes

Eyelash technician to the stars Klaes Andersson gives hellomagazine.com the low down on this season's must-have party season prep

Everyone knows that luscious lashes can be achieved with fake eyelashes and lashings of mascara – but why not opt for a less time-consuming and more long-term solution to see you through this festive party season?A whole host of famous faces including Princess Marie Chantal of Greece and Geri Halliwell (pictured right) love The Lash Perfect professional eyelash extension treatment. It's a semi-permanent treatment which involves making your lashes thicker and longer by attaching individual Lash Perfect lashes to your own – and the results can last up to a month.

"First of all, I choose the right length, shape and thickness of extension needed to create the desired effect of the client," says Klaes, whose celebrity fans include Christine Bleakley (pictured) and Footballer's Wives star Laila Rouass."The treatment will last about an hour and a half, during which I isolate one of your own lashes with fine point tweezers, and then gently place a specially-chosen individual Lash Perfect lash on top of yours using a high grade strong adhesive. "Next, I apply a finishing glaze and voila – you're party ready!"BenefitsThe extensions are durable and waterproof, and look so natural that our friends didn't even notice our newly-applied lashes weren't our own! They curl naturally so there's no need to use an eyelash curler, and you can swim, shower and sleep as normal. They are fine to have done if you wear contact lenses, too – "But remove them during the treatment itself!" recommends Klaes – and give the appearance of always wearing mascara.Maintenance"Avoid getting your lashes wet in the 24 hours following application. And steer clear or saunas and steam rooms for the first two days, too," says Klaes. Don't use waterproof mascara, as many contain a high oil content, which will loosen the lash adhesive, and using cotton wool to remove eye makeup is not recommended. "Don't perm or tint them, either," he adds. After care products can be bought in a Lash Care Kit containing oil-free makeup remover, black mascara and a clear finishing glaze.RemovalDon't attempt to pull the lashes out yourself! They'll fall out gradually, depending on the life cycle of your own lashes. If for any reason you decide you want them removed, contact your lash technician who can take them off safely, without damaging your own lashes.CostLash Perfect treatments are available nationwide - we had ours done at Space NK, who charge £75 for half a set of lashes - which take one hour to apply. A full set takes two hours and costs £125. For an infill, recommended every two to three weeks if you wish to maintain your glamorous extensions long-term, it's £50. A fresh set is suggested every ten weeks.
