This year's Academy Awards belonged to one woman, and one woman only - the gorgeous Natalie Portman. As well as picking up the coveted best actress gong for her role in thriller Black Swan, the 29-year-old wowed with her show-stopping red carpet beauty.
Here, celebrity makeup artist Alice Theobald shows hellomagazine.com readers how to acheive Natalie's look at home.
"For a beautiful, Oscar-worthy makeup look I suggest starting with a primer from Smashbox. This will give a photo finish and will help the rest of your makeup stay in place – and it's a long old night at the Academy Awards!" laughs Alice.
"Guerlain - Parure Aqua Fluid Foundation will give a lasting finish. I prefer to apply foundation using a brush, and you could use a concealer on top to get rid of any blemishes. Next, highlight your cheekbones with the NARS Copacabana stick, and put some Touche Eclat underneath your eyes to hide any bags. This balances the light out for Natalie's numerous photo calls. Finally, set this base with some loose powder – Sheer Luminous Pressed Powder by Burberry is a great one, and it gives extra-lasting hold for the night.
"Eyebrows next – feather lightly with the YSL dark brown pencil in the direction of hair growth, so it looks really natural. Don't pencil on a block – keep it looking understated.
"Eyeshadow-wise, there's a new range called Pure Chromatics by YSL, and it comes in a quad," explains Alice. " The bronze side is amazing for creating a super, shimmery glamorous look worth of Oscars night. Take the lightest shade and sweep it from lash root to above the socket, and put a bit underneath the eye too, taking care to blend it into the lash line. Then, after taking the darker bronze into the outer corners and into the root of the lashes, take a clean eyeshadow brush and blend the colours together."
Use a long-lasting pencil eyeliner – preferably waterproof to protect against any tears of joy! – inside the rim of the eye, and into the roots of the lashes. Using a smudger or a cotton bud, blend the line into the eyeshadow.
"Then curl your lashes and apply YSL False Lash Effect mascara, which does exactly what it says on the tin!" says Alice.
"Now for the blusher. Smile, and apply NARS Torrid to the apples of the cheeks, blending in a circular motion. Bobbi Brown's blusher brush is the perfect size for blusher application," recommends Alice.
"To finish off the look, the Pixi Lip Stain range of felt-tip-pens for the lips are brilliant. Choose a nice pink tone that matches your own lip colour – but watch out and be careful of your application. It's hard to budge!
"And finally, Origins do a lovely body shimmer oil called Shedonism. It just gives your skin a mannequin-style finish, so apply it to any exposed skin – from the décolletage up to the neck, on your shoulders, legs – whatever's showing."
