Princess Diana's make-up artist, Mary Greenwell, has revealed what it was like to work with the late Princess. Mary gave her top beauty tips used on Diana in a Youtube video on Lancôme's creative director, Lisa Eldridge's, channel. Mary said: "I was so privileged to do her make-up for a few years before her untimely death. She was an icon. Her make-up was very, very simple."

Princess Diana was considered a beauty icon throughout her life

Mary then recreated a classic look that she would have applied on Diana, adding that she would update it to keep with the modern times. "I am honoured to have worked with her and honoured to have been in her company. When she was young, she had the most beautiful skin," she said.

Top tips throughout the tutorial included brushing eyebrows to keep them in place, and applying lip balm on the lips at the beginning. "I’d always do this because by the time you get to the lips later, they will be dry," she said. When it came to mascara, Mary said that she would normally coat the roots first, finishing the look with an additional coat. "Princess Diana had amazing lashes … I would never have used fake lashes with her."

During her time working with Diana, Mary focused on creating a soft and glamorous look for her. "The thing I changed most about Princess Diana's look was moving away from the blue liner, which was very ageing for her. I always wanted to have a soft eye for her," she said. "It was about looking glamorous and gorgeous and sweet, she was always so kind, so it was about that."

Mary also revealed that Diana very much enjoyed having her make-up done. "The Princess loved having make-up put on. For her it was one time she could always relax. It was always really lovely chatting with her."
