Helen Mirren has urged women not to get too "obsessed" with detail while applying make-up. The 72-year-old actress is known for her youthful appearance, which has landed her an ambassador role with L'Oreal Paris ambassador alongside the likes of popstar Cheryl and model Neelam Gill. Sharing her own beauty tips, Helen insisted it's more important to think about how others view her than how she thinks she should look.

"I am very used to putting make-up on and I actually love doing my own make-up," The Queen star told Byrdie. "I love sitting down in front of my huge blow-up mirror and putting on my make-up. A tip for putting on make-up is to always look at yourself from a distance and keep referring to the distance that most people would be looking at you because sometimes you can get too obsessed with the detail when you look too close."

Joining her for the interview was fellow celebrity and L'Oreal ambassador Jane Fonda, who also had some pearls of wisdom to share. The 79-year-old spoke about what she feels is the key to luscious looking locks, noting people should give as much focus to their tresses as they do the rest of their bodies. "Healthy hair always looks good, so it's important to look after your hair. Use the right products and take care of your hair like you would your skin," Jane advised.

"When you get older hair and skin tends to get dry so what I love about L'Oreal Paris is that they make products especially for older woman and they were the first to do that and I really appreciate it." But she is adamant the biggest impact on appearance is attitude, naming happiness and love as the top things that help people look younger as they age.
