The gender and name of Russell Brand's baby have been revealed. According to the Daily Star, the British comedian and his fiancée Laura Gallacher are the proud parents of a baby girl they have named Mabel.

Russell has previously suggested that he would like to raise his child to be gender-neutral. During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show ahead of the birth, he said: "We don't know the gender. I may not even ever impose a gender upon it, let the child grow up and be whatever the hell it is."

Of his preparations for parenthood, he added: "I read a different book every week to mentally prepare me for it. I don't know that it has prepared me for it!"

News that Russell, 41, and 27-year-old Laura had welcomed their baby was revealed earlier this week. The star reportedly made the big announcement during a performance at the Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday.

Audience member Daniel Crann told the Mirror: "He didn't confirm if it was a girl or a boy. He was conscious of the clock and made sure he was off stage by just approaching 9pm as he 'needed to get down the M21 as my girlfriend has just had a baby.'"

In a recent interview with the Evening Standard, Russell shared his excitement at the prospect of becoming a first-time father. "I feel lit up by the idea," he said. "I'm very excited about becoming a dad and I'm preparing myself. I am just getting ready to be with a new little person and see what it is they want."

Russell and Laura - who is the younger sister of TV star Kirsty Gallacher - have had an on-off relationship for a number of years, but reportedly settled down following a romantic break to Rome in 2015.

Congratulations to the happy couple on their baby's safe arrival!
