The secret is out! George Clooney's mother, Nina Clooney, has revealed the sex of the twins he is expecting with wife Amal Clooney – a baby boy and a baby girl. "It will be one of each! Yes, a boy and a girl. That's what I've been told," she confirmed to RadarOnline from her home in Augusta, Kentucky. "How marvellous! My husband and I are extremely excited."

News of 39-year-old Amal's pregnancy broke earlier this month, and a short while later proud grandmother Nina shared her joy that George, 55, was becoming a first-time father. She told Us Weekly: "We are extremely happy for George and Amal, and I cannot imagine two people who would be better parents. We were with them and they told us together. We were all together, and it was lovely. It was just a personal moment." She added: "I think he'll be great. And I think she'll be a great mum!"

It is thought that George and Amal's babies are due in June. Their pregnancy was first revealed by friend Julie Chen, who announced the news on The Talk. "Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins," she confirmed. "Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney." Julie – married to CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves – later explained how she found out about the baby news. She said: "My husband and I saw George and Amal about three weeks ago and they casually mentioned that they were expecting twins. We were all like, 'Is it a secret?' and George kind of went, 'No.' But we didn't feel right telling anybody."

Julie continued: "And then that morning that I reported on The Talk, it was in a British tabloid that it might be true or it might not be true. My producer said, 'We might not report on it,' And I'm like, 'No, it's true! It's definitely true! He said it wasn't a secret, and I've been dying to tell!'" Julie confessed that she didn't ask George first if she could break the news. "I didn't call, but Leslie has known him for so long. He [said], 'You know what, I think it's okay.' This is news that everyone celebrates. How could you want to keep it a secret? And it's way past the 12 weeks. She's due in June!"
