It's not just the Chinese Olympics that are making the most of the most auspicious of dates – the eighth of the eighth, '08. Elizabeth Arden is also celebrating, with a party to mark the decades-long heritage of its iconic beauty essential, Eight Hour Cream.

Gail Porter, Camilla Rutherford and Nancy Dell'Olio were among those in attendance as a new limited edition Eight Hour Cream was unveiled, with gorgeous retro-style 50s packaging – 'combining Breakfast At Tiffanys with American-diner chic'.

The cream was developed in 1936 by Elizabeth Arden herself and became an instant success with its ability to soothe dry skin all over the body and face. The formula remains unchanged and one is sold every two minutes in the UK alone. The Limited Edition Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, £16, won't be available until 10 November, but Arden will be giving away thousands of samples of the formula from its counters nationwide throughout August.
