Avoid long hot showers

It might be tempting to turn on the hot water when you've come in from the cold, but this can actually dry out your skin further. Try to stick to warm water and don’t spend longer than five to ten minutes so that your skin stays moisturised.

Moisturise immediately after cleansing

Moisturising is key to any skincare routine anyway, but it's extra important during the winter. Blot yourself dry with a towel after a shower or bath, and then immediately slather on your moisturiser to keep your complexion hydrated.

Stick to creams rather than lotions

If your skin is showing signs of drying out, a lotion might not be thick enough to repair the damage. Stick to creams or oils and make sure to moisturise regularly.

Don't forget sun protection

It can be easy in winter to ditch the sun cream and head out, but your skin is still being exposed to the sun's UV rays. Make sure to use SPF products, and don't forget areas such as your lips – applying lip balm before going outside could save you from a dry, chapped pout.

Check your hands

Hands are often one of the first places we notice dry skin, so they are a great indicator as to whether your complexion is suffering in the winter or not. Try and wear gloves whenever you're outside to keep them protected – apply a hand cream if they need a hydrating boost.

Drink water

It's important to keep your body hydrated so try and make sure to drink eight glasses of water a day – not only will it do wonders for your skin, but it's great for your overall health too.

Invest in a humidifier

The winter air can be cold and dry whether you're inside or outside, so a humidifier can be a great way to keep the atmosphere in your home at an ideal level of moisture that won't leave you skin dried out.
