This is how you should clean your beauty blenders

by Alex Light

The ultimate tool for flawless make-up application, the beauty blender has become a make-up bag essential.

But are you cleaning yours properly? It's important to ensure your make-up tools are washed regularly, and thoroughly, because any bacteria left on the sponge can multiply and then be transferred back onto your face... Which is, obviously, a big no no for the skin!

To find out how exactly the little make-up sponges need to be cleansed, we spoke to official beautyblender ambassador Aline to get the lowdown...

"Regularly cleansing with blendercleanser will maintain the integrity of your blender for 90 days," says Aline, referring to a sponge-speciifc cleansing product sold by the brand.

"Apply an ample amount of liquid blendercleanser directly onto a wet beautyblender. Squeeze and compress gently, working into a lather. Pressing the sponge release oxygen, allowing liquid blendercleaner to be absorbed... To avoid splits, snags, rips or tears, squeeze delicately, avoiding twisting or pinching.

"Rinse and dry with clean cold water. Squeeze away excess water with a towel, set out to dry completely in a clean, well-ventilated area and re-use."

Finally, make sure the sponges dry out completely after being washed. Aline advises that beauty blenders need light and air to avoid growing mould - wet sponges should never be stored in a zip lock bag, a drawer, or any closed space. Use the lid of your canister as a drying pedestal, and set your damp blender on it to dry.
