Oprah Winfrey dubbed her one-on-one chat with Whitney Houston as "the most anticipated interview of the decade."Before they had even sat down together,
And it seems the hype was justified.
Now that it has been filmed, the talk show host has described it as "the best interview I've ever done" – no mean feat considering guests on Oprah's show have included everyone from Tom Cruise to Elizabeth Taylor since its launch in 1986 .
"I can't think of a moment, ever, when I had a stronger connection to the person I was interviewing," said the Mississippi-born personality.
"I just wanted to have an honest conversation with her. One woman to another woman," she continued. "I just wanted a connection between the two of us. And that is what happened."
Oprah herself is keeping quiet about the content of the interview - which will air as a two-part special in the US on Monday and Tuesday. But a statement released by the show confirms Whitney, 46, talks about her failed marriage to Bobby Brown, her drug addiction, rehab and how her family saved her.
Watched by her daughter Bobbi Kristina and legendary producer Clive Davis, the I Have Nothing star also brings the house down with an emotional performance of I Didn’t Know My Own Strength from her new album I Look To You during the segment.
"I think whether you liked or loved Whitney Houston before, you will certainly have a deeper appreciation for what she has been through as a human being," Oprah concluded. "And it mean the fans are just going to love her even more."
