Born: October 15, 1969
Famous for: His role as tenacious Baltimore police officer Jimmy McNulty in The Wire
One of seven children born to Irish parents in Sheffield, Dominic West was interested in acting while still in primary school, appearing in community theatre productions from the age of nine. After graduating from the Guildhall School Of Music And Drama, the handsome actor found himself constantly being cast "in costume dramas, playing posh people", and left for the US in search of something different. The gamble paid off when he was cast as a working-class police officer in The Wire, a role that brought him to the attention of US and UK audiences alike. Film fans may recognise Eton-educated Dominic for his role as back-stabbing Spartan politician Theron in 300. He's also appeared with Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago.
