Raised in the Midlands Essex-born Jo laid the foundations for her acting career on a Theatre Studies and English Literature course at Stratford-Upon-Avon college. She first shot to fame playing feisty nurse Beth Nicholls in the popular Channel 4 comedy No Angels. One of her highest-profile roles was that of a put-upon wife in EastEnders, but she's also appeared in Fat Friends, Spooks, Clocking Off, Heartbeat, and Dr Who. The actress, whose role in hit comedy show Swinging brought her a Rose d'Or international award for best female comedy performer, wed fellow actor Neil Madden in 2007, and the couple now share a home in Oxfordshire
