Reading-born John's silver screen debut came in 1979 with a minor role in The First Great Train Robbery and was followed by brief appearances in several other films, including An American Werewolf In London. John got his break in 1985 when he appeared in the first ever episode of BBC soap opera EastEnders as Dot Cotton's bad boy son Nick. Returning to the part intermittently over the years, the diverse and talented actor has also acted on stage, touring the UK with popular musical Chicago, as well as starring in Bouncers and a variety of pantomimes. In 2008 it was announced "Nasty" Nick would be coming back to the hit BBC soap at Christmas for the first time in seven years. John who is also an accomplished musician has a 22-year-old daughter, Rosanna, from his marriage to Bridget Poodhun, with whom he parted ways in 1997.
