Although she loves acting, Kristen Stewart has said she's "not so interested in being a Hollywood star. It's a job, you know?" But after accepting the lead role in the Twilight films, it might be a bit too late for thoughts like that.
Los Angeles, California
Kristen Jaymes Stewart was born in Los Angeles on April 9, 1990, the only daughter of John Stewart, a stage manager and TV producer, and Jules Mann-Stewart, an Australian script supervisor.
She has an older brother, Cameron, and two adopted brothers named Dana and Taylor.
The brunette star's acting career began aged eight, when an agent signed her up after seeing her perform in her elementary school's Christmas play.
After a few small roles she landed her first Hollywood production, playing Jodie Foster's diabetic daughter in 2002 thriller Panic Room.
The work rolled steadily in after that, but it wasn't until six years later that Kristen achieved worldwide fame with Twilight.
She was widely praised for her portrayal of feisty schoolgirl Bella Swan, who quickly forms an intense relationship with "vegetarian" vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson.
And their unmistakable chemistry had fans wondering if their on-screen romance had spilled into real life, something which they eventually reluctantly confirmed.
From age 14, Kristen was known to be dating Michael Angarano, her co-star from 2004 drama Speak. But the couple were rumoured to have broken up after Kristen finished filming Twilight in 2008.
As interest in her grew, Kristen became more reserved when talking about her private life. She was totally unimpressed by the Tinseltown scene, and admitted that she at first dreaded doing interviews.
"I used to get so nervous that I would become a completely different person – and then they would think that was me. So I've tried to calm down," she revealed.
Although fame has coming knocking since the release of Twilight and the subsequent films in the vampire series, Kristen still lives with her family in Woodland Hills, LA. "I've bought my own place, but I refuse to give up my bedroom," says the star. "I'm so tight with my brothers, it would be weird for me to live on my own."
