The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall announce royal tour of Canada

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have announced plans to visit Canada this summer in honour of the country’s 150th anniversary.

Clarence House announced on Tuesday (Apr. 18) that the royal couple will tour the Great White North from June 29 to July 1 and will undertake engagements in Ontario, Nunavut, and Ottawa. Governor General David Johnston expressed how excited he is for Duke and Duchess of Cornwall's upcoming visit in a statement, saying, “[I am] pleased they are joining the birthday bash and looks forward to Canadians being able to showcase the best of this country."

The royal couple will visit Canada this summer in honour of the country’s 150th anniversary.

Like the Queen, their Royal Highnesses have always been very fond of Canada and have visited the Commonwealth nation many times over the years, including most recently in May 2014 when the couple delighted royal watchers in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Manitoba. The summer tour will mark Prince Charles’ 18th visit to Canada while Camilla has made the trans-Atlantic trip three times in the past.

The heir to the throne and his wife aren’t the only royals who have set their sights on Canada in 2017. Prince Harrywill touch down in Toronto to host the Invictus Games in September. "Today, I am absolutely delighted to announce that the Invictus legacy will continue when Toronto hosts the third Invictus Games in September 2017," announced the 32-year-old via video in March 2016.

Prince Charles and Camilla’s visit will no doubt conjure up memories of Prince William and Kate’svisit to the country last fall. The royal duo and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, spent a week on the West coast, making memorable stops in Victoria, Whitehorse and Vancouver. They also attended Canada Day festivities in 2011 during their first tour as a married couple.
