NORWAY'S FUTURE QUEEN STARTS KINDERGARTEN

5 JANUARY 2006

The new year has brought new adventures for Norway's future monarch, after little Princess Ingrid kicked off 2006 by attending her first day of kindergarten. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and her husband Crown Prince Haakon were photographed on a crisp Scandinavian morning as they dropped their two-year-old daughter off at the pre-school establishment.

Bright sunshine lit up the snow-covered town of Asker, near Oslo, as a confident Ingrid embarked upon her education on Wednesday morning. And her parents escorted their little girl, who was wrapped up warm in a blue coat with a white hood and mittens.

It was a new challenge for the royal youngster who looked ready to have some fun and make new friends. With a metal lunchbox in one hand and a brightly coloured plastic truck in the other, the second in line was well-prepared for her first day away from mum and dad.

Haakon and Mette-Marit, who are both well-known for their hands-on approach to parenting, then headed home to spend the day with Ingrid's little brother Sverre Magnus. The infant, who was born barely a month ago in Oslo's Rikshospital, has just celebrated his first Christmas with the family.
